6 Tips for Professional Growth While Building Your Audience

Changes that occur within your business will always demand you to change on a personal level. You have the choice to grow through your circumstances and challenges, or become weighed down and stressed out.

A thriving business with a connected audience is oftentimes (not always) a reflection of behind-the-scenes professional growth. I’d love to share a few quick tips for growing professionally as you grow your audience.

6 Tips for Professional Growth

Lead with benevolence.

Give your time and energy first before expecting your audience to give you their attention, time, trust, and especially their money. Understand that taking the lead in this relationship with your audience is going to cause discomfort (i.e. creating content for free), but that is exactly what will grow you into a stronger business owner.

Don’t be fooled by the alternate reality of social media.

Social media apps are built to keep us addicted and distracted. Be an observer of the game. Witness the trends and ways you can help your business grow. But do not center your sense of self-worth around social media feedback and the dopamine hits you get from likes, follows, and comments.

Use comparison and competition wisely.

Watch what successful brands are doing online, and learn how to dissect the elements that you can apply to your brand. Be sure to do this without stealing, plagiarizing, or discounting your original ideas.

Don’t take your business losses personally.

You will make plenty of mistakes along the way. Do not count criticism and mistakes made within your business as permanent marks against your personal character.

Clarify your priorities.

On a daily basis, prioritize the activities that count toward sales and leverage. Activities that count toward vanity metrics (like the number of followers you have), not real meaningful change (like the percentage of followers who turned into paying customers), might be a waste of time.

Be intentional about stepping away from your work.

Make a point to play, rest, and spend time with your friends and family. Form deep connections with yourself, other people, and aspects of nature that bring you joy.
