I’m not the type to say that only video marketing will work in 2025.

(Although, I do love a well-written video script that gets new leads in the door!)

I’m not convinced there’s a one-size-fits-all approach to attracting your clients or patients.

And I definitely don’t go around preaching, “You must only use XYZ content strategy to reach your next revenue goal.”

Business is different for everyone.

Depending on…

your lifestyle goals

your current practice/business size

your niche

…your marketing strategy HAS to look different from everyone else’s.

With that said, if you are a service-based business owner or you’re a professional service provider, then I highly encourage you to post more video content in 2025. As you share videos of yourself with potential clients, you get to demonstrate the body language and communication style that clients can expect once they start working with you.

At the same time, you have to find exactly the kind of video content creation that matches your goals (regarding money, time at work, and client relationships).

So instead of putting yourself in a box, please keep things adaptable. That’s your one assignment in 2025!

Remember that all video marketing starts with writing down great ideas. Starting right now, I’m making my writing available to you in the most flexible way possible – whatever you need, whenever you need it.

“It only takes a minute if you wait ‘til the last minute.” Okay, maybe not the best advice if you want to promote your business with care. But if you’ve been struggling with your content creation process, then I have a feeling this guide should help.

A few weeks ago, I set myself up at a cafe only 90 minutes before they closed. I had two client projects to complete, and I knew it was now or never.

Not the time to scroll through Instagram, comparing myself with other marketers or content/copywriters.

Also not the time to second guess these client projects, which were already 75% done.

I did this to/for myself, knowing there would be a sense of urgency.

But what I didn’t know was that the cafe would be playing a fun Beatles playlist! So I got to sing and bop in my chair while writing:

SEO-friendly blog content for a law firm

a lighthearted and personable sales email for a skin spa

Ninety minutes later, I completed my to-do list *and* some.

Adding Deadlines to Your Creative Process

What about you?

What’s the deal with *your* creative process? Been overthinking it? Losing yourself in the social media scroll?

Ever thought about adding deadlines to your process? The point isn’t to feel stressed out of your mind while a blank Canva slide or Google Doc stares back at you.

Instead, deadlines help you realize you *can* produce effective content when:

life gets busy

you don’t have an on-staff marketing person

your business demands 500 things from you

What if deadlines aren’t quite doing the trick? Perhaps this is why your content creation feels like a waste of time:

You’re selling a half-baked product.

It *is* a waste of time.

There is zero urgency in your creative process.

Perfectionism is holding you back.

You rely on single-use content.

Your body and soul aren’t ready to focus.

You’re not using any content templates.

Let’s dive deeper into each factor, along with questions you can ask yourself to actually start enjoying the content creation process.

7 Reasons Your Content Creation Process Feels Like a Waste of Time

Half-Baked Product

Your product or service isn’t clear, valuable, and deliverable. If you’re not able to explain what you’re selling in simple terms — and deliver on your promises — how is your audience supposed to get excited to give you their money?

Ask yourself: “Have I created something people don’t value or understand?”

It *Is* a Waste of Time

Your business model is set up in such a way that only you can complete high-level projects. Therefore, you should be outsourcing your emails, blog posts, and social media posts to a creative studio or marketing agency.

Ask yourself: “What is my behind-the-scenes hourly pay rate, and which tasks are worth less than that rate?”

Zero Urgency

You sit down to create content whenever you feel 100% up for it…which is less often than your business needs. Maybe you track your time, but you’re not using the Pomodoro Method or another simple tool to add urgency to your process.

Ask yourself: “How can I place limits on my creative work sessions without sacrificing quality?”

Perfectionism

Every pixel of your Canva graphic must be perfect, and every word in your IG caption must be written by the angels above…or else all of your professional skills mean NOTHING. How silly does this sound out loud? Super silly. Don’t let this subconscious belief slow you down.

Ask yourself: “At minimum, what must my content achieve to be considered post-able?”

Single-Use Content

If you’re trying to reach potential customers or clients on various platforms (instead of just IG or just TikTok), then start repurposing every piece of content. For example, one blog post can become a reel, a thread, an IG story, and a portion of your email newsletter.

Ask yourself: “How can I turn last month’s top three performing posts into nine more high-quality posts?”

Body & Soul

You just binge watched 30 TikToks about the latest Dateline horror story, and somehow you expect your brain to pump out an inspiring email newsletter about adding more zen to your life in 2023. Not happening.

Ask yourself: “How can I nourish my body, prepare my mind, and set up my environment for optimal creativity?”

Zero Templates

Reinventing the wheel every time you want to advertise your offer gets exhausting. Countless entrepreneurs share their systems and content templates for free…and they actually work! Why not download one and adapt it to your brand’s specific needs?

Ask yourself: “What is one system I can start implementing to make my writing or designing process more templated and repeatable?”

Speaking of templates…

Speed up your creative process with my fully customizable guide, designed to help you create genuine connections with your audience.

After skipping June’s full moon reflection, I’m back to let you know an important truth: Time is just a social construct, and there is no excuse not to post 20 times a day on Instagram in order to grow your business.

Totally kidding!

The reason this is on my mind? This past month, I’ve tested my limits in terms of content creation. I must have written 30+ email broadcasts and 100+ Instagram captions. After letting the creative juices flow – and straining my poor eyeballs – here are two little lessons I remembered.

You don’t necessarily need more content in order to attract more leads.

What you do need is content that accurately reflects your brand.

This means forgoing trends if they don’t actually connect with your audience. But this can also mean hopping on trends in order to give the people what they want.

Digital marketing is basically one big experiment. As much as marketing gurus would like to tell you they’ve unlocked the secrets to a successful marketing strategy…there’s too much of an ebb and flow on the internet to say that one specific way will work forever. (Prime example: the launch of Threads.) So be flexible!

K, next lesson…

I need music and movement to balance my computer-centric life.

The amount of sitting and staring at a screen that I do is bonkers! The more I’ve given myself time to pick up the guitar, go for a walk, enjoy a hike, or just sing and dance in my room…the more willing I am to push through a tired day and return to my awesome client projects.

Doesn’t matter if you don’t play an instrument, you’re not a singer, or you don’t love to hike. I’m sure there’s at least one way you can insert a moment of creativity or physical activity into your daily routine. Why bother? Well because some days you *can* just end your work and go to bed.

But other times, you have time-sensitive responsibilities you need to fulfill, and your brain is asking for a quick recharge. That’s when you ask yourself, “What’s one non-work activity that could reinvigorate me for the next twenty minutes?” Then go do that thing, and see how ya feel about returning to your work.

All of the above points to the idea that you do not have to burn yourself out in order to grow your online audience and hit your monthly revenue goals. And while it’s fun to test your creative limits, you don’t want to push yourself to the point of resenting your work.

Will I be writing another 100 Instagram captions this month? Definitely not. The past few weeks were a special circumstance of helping a small business with an annual marketing campaign.

Moving forward I’ll be working hard but also smart – while enjoying the heck out of music, nature, and time with people I love.

If you haven’t incorporated organic content into your 2023 marketing strategy, maybe this is your sign.

As a business owner with a full schedule, you might be turned off by the thought of adding more creative work to your to do list. Still, if you’re curious about growing your audience without paid ads, then writing SEO-friendly blog content could be for you.

The key is how you approach it.

Here’s how you can use templates, calendars, and outlines to streamline your writing process:

Choose your minimum requirements for keyword metrics like monthly search volume, keyword difficulty (competition), and click-through rate (CTR).

Conduct keyword research on a monthly or quarterly basis. Record your preferred keywords in a Notion table or Google Sheet.

Design blog post formats that match the search intent of your chosen keywords. Prioritize the listicle (“best”) and instructional (“how to”) formats.

Someone searching for product rankings will click a post named “best xyz products.”

Someone searching for ideas or instructions will click a post named “how to xyz” or “easy steps to xyz.”

Convert your chosen keywords into blog post titles, aligning with the listicle or instructional formats. Include numbers and concise language.

Organize your titles in a marketing calendar, alongside complementary social media posts. Keep in mind events, holidays, product launches, etc.

Batch write the posts in date order, according to your marketing calendar. Plan to add internal links over time, as you publish more related blog posts.

Batch writing is dedicating a specific day to write several pieces at once. Following the formats and outlines you’ve already created for yourself

Analyze your website traffic and keyword data over time to identify ways to improve your blog content strategy. Incorporate outsourcing into your strategy.
